Costumes in Advance

The day we found out Huntley would be Huntley instead of Wyatt Earp my mom happened to be in Disneyland. I am extremely greatful for the invention of cell phones so I could call and let her know that she was going to have a granddaughter. Of course she was thrilled and would do what any soon to be grandma would do and went to the closest gift shop and bought her a cute little Minnie Mouse dress. I'm also greatful Disney has their sizes messed up and size 3T Huntley now finally fits into the size 12 months Minnie Dress. So now when we have a stubborn little girl who again refused to be a pumpkin princess or a bee we were able to pull out the Minnie dress and she was thrilled to put it on.Happy Halloween!

No Treats for Huntley

Last night was our ward Trunk-or-Treat and Huntley was supposed to be a gorgeous pumpkin princess. When we tried to get her in her costume we discovered she didn't want to be a pumpkin princess which left us scrambling to find a costume at the last minute and what better to use than duck tape of course.
Originally I'd bought black pants and a shirt to wear under her costume so we figured three stripes of yellow duck tape and voila she's a bee.
Apparently having your parents try and wrap duck tape around you is traumatic so we ended up enjoying cereal rather than giving out the $20 worth of candy I had bought. Now we are extra prepared for the trick'or'treaters that don't come to our house and I'll probably be able to document myself growing larger each week.

Pumpkins

Sometimes I wonder about traditions and where they came from. I'm sure there is some fascinating story behind jack'o'lanterns and I'm sure one day I probably heard it in elementary school but for now I think the whole reason behind pumpkins was so people could have a nice prop to take pictures with in the fall.

I just wish my pumpkin pictures included this as my pumpkin patch. I'd say someday but I don't think fireman make that kind of money.
Instead I'll just be glad there are crazy people like this so someday Chris will get a job!

Food Storage

The past month we've been spending a lot of time canning, freezing, drying to get ready for the winter. Poor Chris isn't a big fan of celebrating "corn day" or substitue any fruit or vegetable of your choice and decided we'd spend this weekend doing "food storage" his style.
Advantages of doing food storage Chris's way are getting to see the mountains freshly frosted in all their fall glory.
Disadvantages of his way are almost falling asleep standing while enjoying the view because he starts food storage day at 2:30 in the morning.

Winning advantage of Chris's food storage methods: One day fills the whole freezer plus some instead of one shelf of the pantry!
