2016~4

To start this week off, Huntley didn't have school on Monday.  I don't know why she was off this week instead of last week when it was an actual holiday, but whatever.  It also worked in our favor because since it was a weird day off we got to have friends over while their mom worked.  We discovered that we have no boy toys.
In order to put the boys out of their misery of playing princess dress up we decorated cupcakes and made valentines.  It was the best I could do.
Tuesday was the best/worst day for this momma.  Our little buddy turned 1!!!!  We spent the day coloring, playing with his toys, reading books, dancing, going to lunch at Nacho Mammas and watching him flirt with all of the ladies.  I love how much Mav has changed our family for the better but sure wish he would slow down this growing up stuff.
I also attempted another cake.  I knew it was a success when Hunt got home from school and said "Why does Maverick's cake say Mav-e"  At least it resembles a cake which is more than I can say for the excuse I presented Paisley with.
Mav was just content to sit and eat graham crackers with frosting while I kept trying to fix it so at least he was happy.
When Chris got home from work we let Mav open, aka watch his sisters open, his presents.
And then on to the main event:
 Wait
 For
 It
This is the face you make when you touch your candle instead of blowing it out.
And this is the face you make when everyone keeps telling you to eat your cake and you're like, no way that thing just tried to get me.
And this is the face you make when you decide to heck with it I'm just diving in.
Except the poor kid was a little inexperienced and ate a big ol hunk of wax instead and then wondered what all the fuss was about.
Luckily little man figured things out.

The next day the birthday fun continued on in the form of an awesome train table from Nini.  Mav's favorite way to play with it is to let his sisters get it all set up and then go king kong on it.  He thinks he's pretty dang funny.
Thursday the two little's were feeling a little let down after all of the excitement the past few days so we pulled out the pool and made some cloud dough.  It was a big hit, even with Maze who was on clean up crew and then spent the next hour trying to get the paste it made on her tongue off.
Friday was no school again.  This time was due to perks of small school living and the state debate tournament being held at our school.  Since it's on the smaller side they needed all of the elementary classrooms too and the younger kids got the day off.  The Hansen boys got to come play again and luckily this time we were able to entertain them in the form of a snow drift.
Saturday I had to work and Mav must like waking up to Chris more than me.
After I got off Chris was itching to get out of the house and went off in chase of the elusive wolf.  They are still elusive but at least this time he saw fresh tracks.
And since we haven't had enough friends over this week we had the Chandler girls come over too.  This time the dress ups were a little more appropriate.

2016~3

To start this week off Maverick wore Carhartts for the first time.  Of course he wouldn't hold still for me to take a picture but take my word for it, he looked adorable.
Our little buddy is growing up way too fast.  So fast this week he graduated out of his newborn carseat.
The box has provided quite a lot of entertainment at our house this week.
It was a fort for two little girls to watch movies in at night.
And a puppy/kitty/wild mustang cage that Pais loves but Mav wasn't quite sure what to think of it.
Earlier this week it snowed but the wind blew a lot during the storm which left us with huge drifts.  Chris spent plenty of time in the backhoe pushing snow around.  He whined about it but secretly he loved every minute.

The girls have loved playing on the giant hill he made out of all of the snow.
Saturday Chris went out looking for wolfs (hunting season never ends!!!) but instead found his first shed of the season.  Isn't it cute :)
And to end the week the following conversations were had with Huntley:

Hunt: "Maverick's in your room!  He's going to see his birthday presents!"
Jess: "It's okay.  He's a baby and he'll forget."
Hunt: "No he won't. Have you seen his head."

Apparently after almost a year the poor kid hasn't grown into his noggin.

Hunt: "I know who is the oldest in our family, dad."
Jess: "Yep, how do you know that?"
Hunt: "The lines on his face.  You're next and I can tell because your arms wiggle.

On that note I'm off to do some pushups!

2016~2

Week 2 was full of adventures on all ends of the spectrum.  If you look below the kids have quite the crazy looks on their faces.
This probably had to do with the fact their mothers took them swimming outside in January in Montana.  In our fairness we took them to the hot springs and the water was wonderful.  So wonderful that Mr. Mav, aka little man who refuses to sleep longer than two consecutive hours at a time, actually slept for 6 hours straight.  I'll now be going every night before bed time.
Saturday we ventured up to the frozen tundra of West Yellowstone for their annual kids'n'snow day. The girls each brought a friend which was so fun for them and so not fun for us about two minutes outside of Ennis when we heard a non-stop chant of "paper, rock, scissors, shoot" for the rest of the drive.  I'm old because since when was "shoot" a part of the chant.
Our first stop was Hebgen Lake where we learned how to ice fish from the bronze medal winner of the world champion ice fishing contest.  You didn't know there was a world champion ice fishing contest? Neither did I, but apparently it's a big deal.
Mav's thoughts on the matter resemble my own.  The girls lasted a good five minutes and were then off making snow angels while Chris and my dad tried unsuccessfully to catch a fish.

Our next stop was West it's self where they had mini-snowmobiles, a giant sledding hill, and an ice skating rink.  Huntley's friend rode the snowmobiles once but other than that they played on the playground the entire time.  Grandpa felt bad for the kid-less pile of snow and tested it out.

Today at church I got to teach the nursery class.  We only have one little girl in nursery so I brought Mav along with me and he thought he was pretty cool stuff.
Or maybe that was just cause he was hanging out with dad who also snuck into nursery and helped himself to the snacks.
Last of all this week before Grandpa and Grandma went home, Mav spent some quality time with Pa doing walking practice.  He's a big fan of doing squats instead, hence the extremely blurry pictures.  Chris and the girls are all voting he walks by his first birthday but I'm holding out until after 13 months.  Time will tell who is the winner.
